Well where to start from, I am glad that I am now finished with my Rhetoric 1302 class. I can say it was a challenging course but also not impossible to end with satisfaction. Since the first time I met my professor, the first thought that crossed my mind was "oh man this guy looks super mean." I was afraid of the amount of work he was going to assign. But I gave him a try. The first week went by and my impression towards my professor changed, i know was like "he is not that bad after all." Anyways, I have learned so many things within writing that have made me become a better writer. In high school my English teacher would emphasize on how important it was to elaborate on our ideas and put all the details about the subject we were talking about.

In my rhetoric class i learned how to write a research paper. Although it was a bit stressful gathering all the resources needed my professor, George Henson was a major help. He was there to help me come up with a better topic, and how to search for all my information.

In his class I learned how to how to write a precis, an abstract and how to work cite my information on all of my essays. Having to spend a numerous amount of hours writing essays making sure they were correct and done in the right format paid off. I now know that writing an essay is not just about typing any information in a piece of paper. You have to make sure the information you are using is true and all facts.

Now that I am finished with this course, I am going to be able to take and use all the things that I have learned and use them in order for me to be successful. Thank you Professor Henson for taking your time and teaching a group of young ladies that are wiling to make something out of their life.

Artificial Life: An Attempt to Surpass God's Power

The New York Times published an editorial dated May 28, 2010, discussing the procreation of artificial life. The author of the editorial doesn't take a stand for or against the basis of artificial life. However, he states that there are potential pros and cons to the development of artificial life, leaving the reader to decide whether he or she agrees or disagrees with this ingenuity. The article, titled, "Once Cell Forward," states that Craig Venter and other scientists developed a synthetic cell. However, the author of the article disagrees with this development's label, instead calling it a synthetic genome (which is not quiet a cell yet, as Venter described it to be, but a long strand of DNA). This genome will supposedly produce new vaccines, and eventually, hasten the pace of creating artificial life.

A day at the Zoo!

It was a Saturday morning when my sister and I decided to go to the Forth Worth Zoo. But we were not going alone, we were going to take our baby cousin Stephanie. When we talked to her mom and asked for permission Fannie (for short) was jumping in happiness. It was her first time going to the Zoo and see all the animals.

On our way there, we were singing in the car and acting goofy. Fannie was so excited that she would tell my sister to drive faster. She wanted to get there before everyone else did. But of course, traffic wastes time.

However, we ended up there not at the right time. they were going to have an elephant show. We walked to the elephant stand as fast as we can. When we get there Fannie started clapping for the elephant to do a trick.

As time passed and we finally saw all the animals in the Zoo, my little munchkin fell asleep in my arms. She was very tired of walking all around the Zoo but I told her if she wanted me to carry her and she said " no because I want to see the animals by myself" so I let her walk.

Later that night she was telling all the family how her day at the Zoo had gone and how the animals would talk to one another.

I enjoyed that day at the Zoo. It was a day full of memories.

A letter to the President

Dear Mr. President,

You have being in the office for more than a year now, and all i seem to see is that all the promises you once said would come true are not. Instead of bettering things out they are worsening. The concern I have the most has to deal with immigration.

Immigration has been an issue for a really long time now and it continues to be. First of all, why treat Hispanics in a cruel way? In my point of view everybody should be treated the same, but for some odd reason they do not.

I personally believe that if all Hispanics that are illegal were to leave and go back to Mexico, the U.S. would be different. First, in that mostly Hispanics are the ones working in construction. I feel that without them, who is going to build all the beautiful buildings we have? I mean there are other talented people but for most part all I see working in construction are Hispanics.

And now that the law has been passed in Arizona, were they stop you and ask if you have papers or not has become more difficult for Hispanics. In my opinion, I think that people should not be judge by the color of their skin. If they look Mexican they should not be asked personal questions.

I just think that you as President should take your people's opinions and feelings into consideration. I mean nobody likes their family going through a difficult situation.

Sincerely,
Viridiana Perez

Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Speech-pathology is what I would like to research. I am interested in helping kids be able to speak and hear correct. Speech pathology focuses on disorders of speech and language and hearing.

This subject caught my attention because i am willing to help people who cannot hear, or speak properly. Especially with children.

In my family I have a two year old cousin that can hardly speak. He says some words but most of the time he speaks "Chinese" as we like to call it. I am always making him repeat words after me, and sometimes he says them but if I continue to do it he just blabbers things out.

I want to make sure children who cannot speak, or hear correct have the opportunity to learn. I know that there are poeple that are helping them already but you never know I can change a child's life too.

I am going to do some research and find out other ways and methods that I can use and become aware of so I can teach kids to speak and hear right.

A place somewhere else

In 1984, the author John Grisham published an article called "My turn: Somewhere for Everyone." talks about homeless people that dwell in public places and how it has become a serious problem to the residents.

Grisham discusses that in his early childhood homeless pedestrians were known as "hobos" and "winos" but never labeled as homeless. Street beggars were always being avoid and ignore for there was no need to interact with them.

He also recalls on when he first met with a beggar in the streets of New York City. Being followed around Grisham "exchanged insults" with him and soon was able to loose him through the crowd.

Throughout the world, you hear about the homeless rate increasing and how through time people that loose their jobs give up and become beggars. In my hometown Dallas TX, you can find yourself with beggars about every other corner.

Whenever I drive through downtown, I get really emotional in just seeing people sleeping on the sidewalk, carrying signs saying " please give me some money.. I have not eaten in three days." This breaks my heart into pieces but at the same time makes me irritated. I do not like seeing people out in the streets begging for money. I would rather see them in a a homeless shelter.

I hope that there will be a solution to all the homeless situation, and that someone would gladly help them out.

The Bible:)

Well as many of you all know this is the Bible, God's Holy word. This book is where I can find peace, love, patience, strength, hope, knowledge, and everlasting promises!

Ever since I was a small girl, I would hear about how powerful the Bible was. How God can speak to you through it and how it talks about the past, present and future. But I never really opened it and read it until I started going to church.

As my journey as being a christian began, I started reading the Bible more and more. I came to find everlasting love through Jesus Christ!! I would hear testimonies about other people saying how God spoke to them through this book. To me, it is not just any ordinary book. It is the book of life. As I said before, it is the book where you can find peace, love, hope, strength, knowledge, faith and everlasting promises.

One of my favorite bible verses is found in Philippians 4:13. It says, "I can do EVERYTHING through Christ who strengthens me" It is one of the many I like. I especially like this one because it comforts me when I am feeling upset. Whenever I am about to take a test and I doubt myself in passing it, I repeat this verse over and over again until I get the confidence.

I am just so thankful that I have this book because it is my shield, it is were i find my refuge. No matter what people say about this book, I know that everything that it says is true. God is the only one that can change a persons life and according to the bible He is the only one that knows how you feel, what you are thinking, what you are going to say, and even how many hairs you have in your head!

He knew me even before I was born!
